Day 1-Londorossi Gate-Forest Camp
•Elevation (ft): 7,800ft to 9,500ft•A day distance: 6 km
•Day hiking time: 3-4 hours
•Vegetation type: Rain Forest
Depart Moshi in the morning after breakfast to Londorossi Gate it is about 4 hours, after completing park entry formalities. Then you will drive to Lemosho trailhead upon arrival at trailhead lunch stop will follow, and then begin through an uninterrupted forest which winds to the first campsite.
DAY 2-Forest Camp- Shira 2 Campsite •Elevation (ft): 9,500ft to 11,500ft
•Day distance: 8 km
•Day hiking time 5-6 hours
•Vegetation type: Moorland
The trek continues on the trail leads you out of the forest and starts a savannah of high grasses, heather, and volcanic rock drape with lichen beards. As you ascend over the lush rising and falling hills and cross several streams to reach the Shira Ridge before going down gently to Shira 1 camp. You will have an amazing view of Kibo from across the plateau.
DAY 3-Shira Camp 1-Shira 2 – Moir Hut

•Day hiking time: 5-7 hours

After breakfast the adventure proceed exploring Shira plateau for all most the whole day, though it is a moderate walk eastern side towards Kibo’s glaciered peak, crossways the plateau which leads to Shira 2 campsite on moorland meadows by a stream. Then continue to Moir Hut, a slight used campsite on the base of Lent Hills. A range of walks are available on Lent Hills of which gives you an excellent acclimatization opportunity while Shira stands as one of the highest plateaus on earth.
DAY 4-Moir Hut-Lava Tower-Barranco Camp

•Day hiking time: 4-6 hours
•Vegetation type: Semi Desert
Today from Shira Plateau you continue eastern up to the ridge, passing through the junction towards the Kibo peak. As you continue direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, famous known as the “Shark’s Tooth.” in a while after the tower, you will come to the second junction which brings you up to the Arrow Glacier to an altitude of 16,000ft. You will then continue down to Barranco Hut at an altitude of 13,000ft. You will here we rest, enjoy dinner, and overnight. Although you ended the day at the same elevation as when you started in the morning as this is very important day for acclimatization and will definitely help your body prepare for summit.
DAY 5-Barranco Camp-Karanga Camp
•Elevation (ft): 13,000ft to 13,100ft•Day distance: 5km
•Day hiking time: 4-5 hours
•Habitat: Alpine Desert
After breakfast, you leave Barranco camp and continue on a steep ridge passing through the Barranco Wall, to Karanga Valley campsite. This is a very short day intended for acclimatization.
DAY 6-Karanga Camp-Barafu Camp
•Elevation (ft): 13,100ft to 15,300ft•Distance: 4 km
•Day hiking time: 4-5 hours
•Habitat: Alpine Desert
After breakfast leave Karanga camp and reach junction which connects with Mweka Trail, You will continue up to Barafu Hut. Now should know that at this point, you have already completed the Southern Circuit which offers views of the summit from different angles. You will camp here rest and enjoy your dinner while prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo can be observed from this point.
DAY 7-Barafu Camp-Summit-Mweka Hut
•Elevation (ft): 15,300ft to 19,345ft (and down to 10,000ft)•Day distance: 5 km ascent / 12 km descent
•Day hiking Time: 7-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent
•Habitat: Arctic
Very early in the morning (midnight), you will start you last push to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You heading in a northwesterly direction and climb through serious scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This will be the most mentally and physically challenging part of the trek.
At Stella Point (18,600 ft), you will have a short rest stop and will be rewarded with the most wonderful sunrise you are ever likely to see (if weather permitting). From Stella Point, you may encounter snow all the way on your first one hour ascent to the summit. Finally reach Uhuru Peak the highest point in Africa and on Mount Kilimanjaro but faster hikers will be able to see the sunrise from the summit.
After the summit you will now start descending and continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu campsite for lunch. You will need gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down, Mweka Camp is located in the upper forest and fog or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Later in the evening you have time to enjoy your last dinner on the mountain and a well-deserved sleep.
DAY 8-Mweka Camp-Moshi
•Elevation (ft): 10,000ft to 5,400ft
•Day distance: 10 km
•Day hiking time: 3-4 hours
•Vegetation: Rain Forest
After breakfast you will continue descending down to the Mweka Park Gate to obtain your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). And a vehicle will meet you at Mweka gate pass through mweka village back to moshi for Lunch and more celebrations.
