Trekking Summary
7 Day Camping Safari Oldonyo Lengai Trekking requires 4-5 hours which is moderate exertion, the ascent is quite difficult and challenging because the mountain is very steep and climbers are exposed to the hot sun as there is almost not any shade. The best time to climb the mountain is early in the morning before the sun gets too hot, Herds of zebra and wildebeest can sometimes be seen on the trip. A trip to the mountain can also cover other nearby areas of interest like Lake Natron, which is a breeding ground for all East African flamingoes and other birds. There are several Maasai bomas (villages) which can be visited on additional cost just talk to your driver guide if you are interested and one can also visit the nearby Mount Gelai which has geysers and a brilliant waterfall.
Oldonyo Lengai Trekking Details
Day 1 Moshi – Lake Natron Ngaresero
Departing Moshi in the morning drive to Mto-wa Mbu (Lake Manyara) for lunch. After lunch, you drive north along the bottom of the Great Rift Valley wall to Lake Natron and the village of Ngare Sero at the base of Oldonyo Lengai. Overnight at a campsite by the lake.
Day 2 Natron – Oldonyo Lengai Summit
Just after midnight a short drive to mountain base where the trekking to the Oldonyo Lengai active volcano starts it is approximately 6-8 hours to the summit and get back before the sun rises as it is very hot during the day Sun hats and a large water bottles are essential descend by the same route back to camp for full breakfast and the rest of the day will be spent at the camp relaxing or in Evening go for a cultural tour in the maasai village and visit the Ngaresero primary school depends on how you feel after the trek’s dinner and overnight at the camp.
DAY 3 Lake Natron Full Day
After a late breakfast make yourself ready for a walking tour to the Lake where is breading place of all east African pink flamingos while escorted by your local Maasai guide.Lunch time back to camp afternoon will be spent on your leisure ad pleasure and evening visit the ngaresero waterfalls dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 4 Lake Natron –Northern Serengeti
Departing after breakfast to Serengeti with picnic lunch via loliondo game reserve on the northern side of Serengeti entering the park through north Kleins Gate game en route till late evening back to camp dinner and overnight at Lobo campsite.
DAY 5 Nothern Serengeti – Central Serengeti Full Day
After breakfast leave the camp having game on route picnic lunch with you to seronera area pass to camp drop the cook/chef proceed with game drive looking for more lions,leopards,cheetah,zebras, wildebeest, gazelle’s and hyenas till late evening before sunset back to camp for dinner and overnight at seronera campsites.
DAY 6 Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast with picnic lunch depart for ngorongoro via Naabi Hill gate game en route to ngorongoro crater the living Eden, you will be amazed by its abundance wildlife and very close to the vehicle as the crater floor support more than 25000 large mammal’s including the remained Black Rhinos, Zebras, Gnus Gazelles Buffalos,Lions, Cheetahs, Hippos, Elephants, Elands, Hyenas and a number of aquatic birds, exploring the crater till late afternoon ascend the crater back to jambo campsite for dinner and overnight
DAY 7 Lake Manyara – Moshi
As usually the trip start just after breakfast and it is about 15 minutes from the camp to the park gate after park formalities proceed with game drive to this small national park which is very famous for its tree climbing lions although they are very rare to be sported only if one is lucky keep touring the park lunchtime drive back to camp for hot lunch and the trip back to Moshi will start just after lunch and if you would like to have a glance on Tanzanian souvenir’s this will be your time.
