The climbing trough Shira Route is a difficult route that begins in the west, at Shira Gate. What is unque about Shira is that the first section of the trail is not hiked, but rather driven. Therefore, climbers using Shira will miss out on hiking up one of Kilimanjaro’s ecological zones, the rain forest.
Itinerary Detailed
Day 1. Transfer form Kilimanjaro National Park
Starts with the short transfer from your hotel to the Kilimanjaro National Park Londorossi Gate and the trek Commence after park formalities. Overnight at campsite in THE forest 9,000ft/2800m.
Day 2.Climb Trough Grassy Moorland
From here treks continue pass through forest and then across the grassy moorland of the Shira Plateau to reach Shira Camp one at 12,500ft/3800m and overnight Stay at shira one Camp.Day 3. Trekking Through dry Landscape
You will be turning eastwards and continue ascending up gradually through the dry landscape before descending again to reach Barranco Hut 13,000ft/3900m and overnight stay at Barranco Camp.Day 4.Barranco Valley where crosses the Karanga
Today the path will become steeply out of the Barranco Valley where crosses the Karanga Valley, then turns north to reach Barafu Hut 15,500ft/4600m overnight stay at Barafu Camp.Day 5.Climbing to Uhuru Peak the Summit
This is going to be a long day and early starts is very recommended to reach the crater rim at Stella Point in time for sunrise. Then to Uhuru Peak the Summit 19,340ft/5896m the highest point in Africa.Day 6. Ending of Climbing and back to Mweka
Descend to Mweka gate from where you will be picked and transferred back to your hotel in Moshi for more celebration and total rest. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. Depart for the airport or other destinations in Tanzania and please find our extended trip itinerary to Zanzibar which is a good way to recuperate.
